犯罪嫌疑人和被告人是对因涉嫌犯罪而受到刑事追诉的人的两种称谓，在公诉案件中，受刑事追诉者在检察机关向人民法院提起公诉以前，被称为"犯罪嫌疑人"，在检察机关正式向法院提起公诉以后，则称为"被告人"。
